This test instruction describes the determination of local ductility by thickness measurements respectively fracture surface measurements to get repeatable and reproducible results within one lab and between different labs or operators. The recommendation focuses on optical measurements carried out on fracture surfaces of standardized tensile specimens.
The recommendations with respect to proposed characteristics, measurements, measurement hints and interpretation of results are based on two round robin test campaigns using samples of the steel grades CR440Y780T-DH, CR780T980T-CP (both 1.5 mm) and HR660Y760T-CP (3 mm). The recommendations probably need to be updated for other thickness ranges and/or steel grades in future revisions.
Specifications that deviate from this recommendation may be agreed between customer and supplier and must be documented.
