This testing recommendation shall be used for the quantification of Roping on the surfaces of formed aluminum.
Roping lines (pic. 1) appear as linear mountain and valley structures and are parallel to the rolling direction of the sheet metal material. The emergence of Roping results from plastic deformation of the material perpendicular to the rolling direction. The Roping value RK is calculated from the frequency and form of Roping lines using a replica of the surface.
Deviations to this testing recommendation must be agreed upon by the customer and supplier and must be documented.
