Since hydrogen embrittlement can lead to safety relevant issues shis document describes the 4-point bending test on flat samples of hot-formed steels to determine the sensitivity to hydrogen-induced delayed cracking.
Different influencing variables can be evaluated, such as
• material (microstructure),
• coating,
• mechanical properties and hardness,
• heat treatment parameters and
• furnace atmosphere.
The 4-point bending test is usually carried out as part of a material and/or coating approval of hot-formed steels.
