VDA 460-100 Bewertungsempfehlung für den Personenschutz gegenüber niederfrequenten Magnetfeldern im Kraftfahrzeug / Recommendation for the assessment of personal protection against low-frequency magnetic fields in motor vehicles (05/2025) - Gruppenlizenz (group license), AGB (GTC) Art. 10, 2 - Language of the document German and English

As the electrification of motor vehicles continues to progress, the issue of new sources for magnetic fields and their evaluation is increasingly coming into focus. This topic is also being addressed by vehicle manufacturers, who assess it according to the latest findings and studies.

Currently, no cases are known where magnetic fields within a vehicle pose concerns or adversely affect individuals. Nevertheless, vehicle manufacturers support the idea of conducting measurement-based investigations of these matters in representative series-production vehicles. Such investigations would involve indicative measurements and evaluations concerning personal safety.

The recommended conditions, measurement positions, and requirements serve as guidance and do not automatically result in health-related impacts, even if exceeded.

The basis for these evaluations relies on the latest insights from the WHO and ICNIRP.

In cases of doubt, individual issues should be analyzed and evaluated in detail. For this purpose, product-specific requirements, simulation methods for basic limits, studies, or similar approaches can be employed.

The magnetic fields occurring within vehicles are comparable to those of other housholde appliances and are generally considered harmless.

Individuals with active medical implants are considered to be a particularly sensitive group. If the protection recommendations provided by ICNIRP are observed, the functionality of these implants typically remains unaffected. However, due to individual differences in active medical implants, it may be advisable in certain cases to conduct a personal assessment. If necessary, it is recommended to seek additional information or consult a medical professional for advice.
