It is known that the oleic acid or chemically similar substances contained in certain cosmetics and also in skin fat can attack the upper layers of leather and other steering wheel cover materials (“top coat”) and cause a defect that cannot be reproduced by previous abrasion tests .
This test sheet describes a method for testing the oleic acid resistance of steering wheel leather and synthetic cover materials that are used as steering wheel cover materials in vehicles.
This VDA recommendation is to be used as a supplement to the usual rub fastness tests, e.g. B. ISO 11640 and is based on this.
