The VDA recommendation is intended as an instrument to standardise assessment and improvement of the quality of materials laboratory services in the automotive industry.
The objective is to ensure assessment of materials laboratories within companies in the automotive industry as part of their system audits using a list of requirements (Appendix A) tailored to the specific characteristics of materials laboratories. Use of the recommendation is intended to reduce workload and costs involved.
For example, self-auditing following the structure of the list of requirements enables multiple audits by different clients to be made much more efficient. At the same time, the recommendation provides effective support for the more in-depth assessment of materials laboratory activities required in specific cases as part of process audits complying with VDA Volume 6.3.
